Systems Engineering Complexity in the Growing Enterprise

Understanding and Managing Complexity

Systems Engineering is an interdisciplinary approach the objective of which is to create, integrate, and manage successful enterprise business systems through a full life cycle.  These “systems” may be physical hardware, software, middleware, or process or workflow tools or a combination of these things.  Within the bounds of our Systems Engineering offering we include such disciplines as requirements definition, system design and planning, enterprise architecture, information assurance, data and relationship mapping, and process re-engineering.

We focus on identifying the core capabilities, objectives, and needs of our customers while defining the requirements, capacity, and configurations that will optimize the probability of meeting those needs. We accomplish this through a comprehensive review of the triple constraint (scope, schedule, cost) and an assessment of existing processes and supporting systems before we attempt to deliver re-engineered processes, strategies, plans, or technical recommendations that will support success.

FedSoft’s iterative design model is well suited to most complex systems environments. In this model, our Analysts and Engineers work directly with stakeholders and subject matter experts to discover system and business needs and translate them into functional requirements.  Once validated, these confirmed requirements then become the basis for technical architecture activities.  Our approach is proven, process-oriented, and mission-focused.

Our approach to risk management bakes risk assessment and mitigation planning into every aspect of the design and development cycle. At each milestone or significant project event, we complete a program-wide review, looking at where the process has been and where it is going, reassessing the level and opportunity for customer risk. Each risk element that is identified is evaluated for probability of occurrence and level of impact. This collaboration is completed with the stakeholders and subject matter experts, ending with a risk assessment, impact, and detailed mitigation plan.

Fundamental to FedSoft’s success has been our ability to capture the intent and essence of the customer’s need, translate that into written requirements, then deliver that output as an integral component to program, project, or application development success.
